The Girl in Red’s Weblog

{March 10, 2009}   I Know, I Know

I  haven’ been on a  while. Okay, before I get into the schronicles of my life, here’s some good stuff:

  • Natasha Bedingfield’s NB album has two secret songs in the last track
  • War, Inc is really good, but I can see why a lot of people didn’t like it; it was very biting
  • Ditto Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Okay, what’s happened recently? Well, dear readers, I’ve been working my arse off in reference to assignments. Also, my group and I went to Baskin Robbins one rainy afternoon (it’s in a teeny shopping corner). It was fun; at one stage, two of my friends and I skipped across te road and back singing (the first time, we were singing Raindrops keep Falling on my Head, the second time, it was Eye of the Tiger). That was fun. I think you all know about the torturous swimming carnival. Um… oh, preparing for my formal (aka Prom). Who knew it was so hectic! Making appointments, buying various things. I’m looking for a dress this weekend, but I’ve got less than a month to find a partner. Yeah, this is me. I don’t really know any guys. My friend’s brother is at a camp that weekend. My friend said a friend of her partner would be happy to come, but then the guy asked if I was hot. She apparently said that I was one of the most attractive people she hangs out with, but she doesn’t want me to take someone to my formal who wants to go, but is wondering if I’m hot.

Photo day is coming up, as is the due date for a couple of assignments and payments. Yipee.

I’ll probably post more later; I just can’t remember the other stuff I had to talk about.

I’m getting back into shape, eating healthier and eating less. I think my metabolism’s changing again ‘cos I can’t eat things too rich and some things which aren’t considered rich I’m now finding too rich (e.g. Milo ice cream).

My friend is really happy with me because I keep giving her posters of the Twilight cast. Also, the guy who plays Carlisle (Peter Facinelli) and Hayden Panettiere (aka Claire off Heroes) are coming to Australia.

Emily Blunt is no longer going to be Black Widow in Iron Man 2. Rumours are it will be Scarlett Johansson.

{February 10, 2009}   Hey All

Yes, I’ve finally got time to post. In my defence, school has just started and it’s important that I get my work done. I went to my swimming carnival. It was boiling. I was so sick that I had to be carried from the pool. I had to pause and then keep swimming. I, however, got cheered throughout the race (even though I was dead last, effort and persistence is considered to be more important than winning at my school) and afterwards has people say one of three things to me:

  1. Good effort (or something along those lines)
  2. How are you feeling?
  3. Did you hear me cheering for you?

It was hours before I got the colour in my face again.

Okay, the movie I’m tracking right now is a little film called Coraline. Based on the book by Neil Gaiman (he wrote the novel of Stardust before it was turned into a movie. He’s also written other books such as American Gods),it’s a dark animation (directed by Henry Selick – yes, it’s darker than the Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride). It has the voices of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, John Hodgman (aka PC guy in the Mac ads), Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French. Probably not for kids under the age of ten.

Also watched a few DVDs in the past few weeks. They were:

  • Soapdish (really funny)
  • The Jurassic Park films (I like the character of Malcolm best, but probably the first fiml best)
  • Good Will Hunting (if you haven’t seen it, it’s worth watching at least once)
  • 21 (fairly good. Spacey is, once again, fantastic)

I’ll probably post more stuff soon.

{January 21, 2009}   Even More Movie Stuff

I just remembered; you know how they remade Knightrider into a TV movie so they could turn it into a TV series? Well, they’re doing the same thing to Ten Things I Hate About You. It has the same Dad, but otherwise, all new cast. The girl who plays Kat is in a popular Nickelodeon TV series and the guyplaying Patrick is the grandson of Gregory Peck. Now, while it’s been getting publicity because it’s his grandson, I don’t think people will see it. It was Julia Stiles’ breakout, but it was Heath Ledger’s Hollywood breakout film, too.

Taylor Lautner is definitely playing Jacob in New Moon. There were some doubts, but it has been confirmed. Ben Barnes (aka Prince Caspian in tha last Narnia movie) wants to play Aro.

Speaking of confirmed, so has a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Now there are all sort of rumours as to who will be in it. There was a minor Robert Pattinson rumour, but there was a bigger rumour that Russell Brand would play Jack’s brother.

Well, Teresa Palmer is doing well for herself. She started getting attention as Melody in 2:37. She then got noticed in the Grudge 2 and December Boys, being Daniel Radcliffe’s first on-screen kiss (although Order of the Phoenix came out before December Boys). More recently, there was Restraint/Guests/Ravenswood and Bedtime Stories. Now, she’s in the latest Just Jeans fashion campaign, has finished Young Americans/Kids in America (with Topher Grace from That 70’s Show) and has two or three movies in the works and is appearing in magazines more frequently. Nice work. Although the poor thing has had people spreading rumours about her love life even though she’s not really big yet, saying she’s going out with co-stars from pretty much each of her movies. Hopefully, it’ll get better for her.

The song Decode by Paramore (responsible for the song Misery Business) featuring as the song for the Twilight soundtrack featuring clips from the movie in the film clip (funnily enough, the song isn’t actually in the movie) is doing supremely well. It’s a good song, but the fact that it’s for Twilight has made it bigger.

{January 21, 2009}   Oh, Extra Stuff

Okay, let’s see. Emily Blunt is going to play Black Widow in the next Iron Man movie. As everyone knows, Don Cheadle is replacing Terrence Howard as Rhodey. Mickey Rourke is playing Whiplash. Samuel L Jackson might not be in the sequel like everyone originally thought. Tim Robbins is still a rumour, but Sam Rockwell has been confirmed as Justin Hammer. The fans for some reason have been wanting/keep mentioning the Mandarin (who was apparently indirectly referenced in the first) and Crimson Dynamo.

Rachel Weisz looks like she’ll be nabbing the role of Catwoman in the next Batman movie. Rumours of the Riddler are rife, with names like Johnny Depp and David Tennant (yeah, the latter is an oooooold rumour).

More cast members confirmed for the Tim Burton version of Alice in Wonderland. We already knew Australian Mia Wasikowska (In Treatment TV Series, Defiance, Rogue) would be Alice, that Johnny Depp would be the Mad Hatter (not exactly surprising) and Helena Bonham Carter will be the Red Queen. Well, since then, this is what has been confirmed:

  • Anne Hathaway – the White Queen
  • Michael Sheen (Underworld, Frost/Nixon) - the Cheshire Cat
  • Alan Rickman – Caterpillar (he’d be pretty good in that role)
  • Crispin Glover (Charlie’s Angels) – the Knave of Hearts
  • Matt Lucas (Little Britain) – Tweedledee and Tweedledum

Other cast members include Christopher Lee (unknown character), Frances de la Tour (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire; she will play Aunt Imogen) and Eleanor Tomlinson (while in a couple of small things and had a small role in The Illusionist as the younger version of Jessica Biel’s character, she’s best known for Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. She’ll be playing Fiona Chataway).

Kristen Bell’s been busy. She’s got SIX movies in the works. One is Astro Boy. I’m really hoping they’ll release Fanboys out here soon. There might even be a Veronica Mars movie, if we’re lucky.

I’ll post more movie news later.

{January 20, 2009}   I’m Back (Finally)

Yes, I know, I haven’t posted lately. Well, I’ve been getting social. Anyway, I saw Marley and Me with friends and it was good. Jennifer Aniston was especially good.

Okay, music. Um, I’m really liking the song You Found Me by The Fray. Nat Bassingthwaighte’s song Someday Soon is fairly good. Oh, My Life Would Suck Without You by Kelly Clarkson is awesome! Others to check out are Miss Independent by Ne-Yo and Please Don’t Leave Me by Pink.

Recently saw Jurassic Park and it’s full of suspense. I love it. We’ve got out Lost World (Jurassic Park 2) and Jurassic Park 3, so I should see them. The Bank Job is well done (Jason Statham and Saffron Burrows are in it). I recently saw a new Ice Age 3 trailer involving a female squirrel which is funny. Another movie I’ve just watched on DVD for the first time is Soapdish. My Grandma had it and she doesn’t watch the same movies often, so she gave us a few and that was one. It is funny as Hell.

{December 27, 2008}   Hey Everyone

I saw Four Christmases/Holidays today. Verdict? While awkward in the scene with Robert DuVall (who plays the dad of Vince Vaughn), a good film. Although, I went with my friends, and we were doing the usual thing of passing the food to be shared and whispering about whether anyone was missing out or who should take this or no when a woman in front of us turned around and hissed “WILL YOU JUST SHUT UP?“.  My friend said sorry and no one of us dared make a noise

I also went to a sixties themed birthday party and have finally had an encounter with a Shirley Temple (Like a Creaming Soda spider, sort of). Really fun party.

I also watched Tropic Thunder (one off the list!). It. Is. Awesome (really, Ben Stiller made one Hell of a movie) There are a bunch of fake ads/trailers at the beginning, the funniest being the one for the “movie” called “Satan’s Alley”, which they managed to get Tobey Maguire for. I can understand why Robert Downey Jr was nominated. While Tom Cruise was funny, I can’t understand why he was. Other members, yeah, but Tom Cruise’s role wasn’t big enough; it didn’t consist of much character depth.

Okay, I really like Paul Hogan, but there’s one thing I will never forgive him for. He did an ad for Australia aimed for the American market. He famously uttered the line “Throw another shrimp on the barbie”. If you’re not an Australian, let me make one thing perfectly clear; while we call Barbeques “Barbies” for short (BBQ), we don’t call shrimp “shrimp”; we call them “prawns” (yeah, prawn; rhymes with brawn).

I just did Christmas with both sides of the family. It was really nice to see everyone. Of course, I have put on weight (hopefully, I’ll lose it within the next week, which I’m able to do sometimes). Also talked to the neighbours.

I love talking to little kids about what they ask for from Santa. The most interesting Christmas requests I’ve heard were for a flying saucer, a remote-controlled spider and a flying hotdog.

I’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and, if I don’t make another post for about a year, a Happy New Year.

{December 21, 2008}   Four Sleeps ’til Christmas!

Yes, this week is sure to be filled with some kind of poultry, ham, chocolate, punch, wine, chocolate, nuts and various other things. I’m really looking forward to Christmas. I always hope really hard that my family and whatever like the presents I got them. Same with birthdays. But yeah, while I love the receiving, I find the giving more pleasureable. So far no one has done the frozen smile thing when they’ve opened their present from me, but I’m always worried about it.

Did you know that there are three songs with the title “Breathe”? Just like there are three versions of “Mambo No.5″ (love the first cover, hate the second). There’s one by Blu Cantrell and Sean Paul which isn’t bad. I like the other two more, though. One’s by Anna Nannick. My favourite, however, is the Michelle Branch version. Actually, I’ve also been listening to her song “Everywhere”.

Okay, what have I been looking up on the internet? Okay, there have been quite a few interviews and skits and stuff with the three main stars of Tropic Thunder (Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr.). There’s the “behind the scenes” of their “viral ad for Tropic Thunder” sketch.  There’s an American Idol skit (look up Gladys Knight and the Pips). But on top of this, I’ve accidentally found RDJ on Rove, Jack Black challenging Michael Buble on Rove and Robert Downey Jr.’s acceptance speech at ShoWest (Empire magazine had mentioned ShoWest a few issues back and some funny thing between RDJ and Stiller as they introduced clips. Actually, that’s where I heard about the viral ad skit).

{December 20, 2008}   Wow

Okay, last night, for the first time, I watched a little movie called LA Confidential. It. Was. BRILLIANT. Kevin Spacey (as always) gave a brilliant performance. Russell Crowe was very good. Guy Pearce was phenomenal. Even James Cromwell and Danny DeVito were great in their own roles. Which totally explains why none of them got nominated for an Oscar. NOT. I found that the performance that got the Oscar while was okay, was probably the weakest out of all of the actors (it went to Kim Basinger). I don’t know why they didn’t even get nominated (I could’ve seen three best actor noms and at least one best supporting actor nom). I don’t know, maybe they were worried that it’d clean up the awards. Like LotR: the Return of the King. According to the Academy, it was a brilliant film where the actors weren’t worthy of nominations.

{December 18, 2008}   Why, Hello!

Welcome to another post on The Girl in Red’s Blog.

Okay, enough with the stupidity. Firstly, new Iron Man 2 rumours; Tim Robbins is apparently playing Howard Stark in flashback sequences. Also, Hawkeye and Black Widow are supposedly the villans (Black Widow isn’t surprising, when you look at the casting call I posted earlier). But there are several superhero movie rumours going around. There’s the one about Sam Worthington playing the Phantom and there’s the one about how  it’s between Will Smith and Matthew McConaughey for the role of Captain America.

It’s annoying; while I have seen many of this year’s good movies (Iron Man, Prince Caspian, etc), there are a few that I still want to see, like Tropic Thunder and the Dark Knight. I still want to add more to the list, though, so if anyone has any suggestions, post them.

EDIT: Add In Bruges, Make it Happen, Wild Child, Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging, Wanted and Burn After Reading to the list.

Well, cleaning products and dettol (don’t ask). This is what happens when you spend your day cleaning bathrooms. Your hands become dry (and slightly more wrinkly, come to think of it) and you smell like a clean bathroom. I actually feel kind of sick, but you get that.

I saw a trailer for a movie kinda like Heroes (actually, I found out about it from the Heroes boards on the Goddess site), but with a Hell of a lot more action called Push. It looks spectacular. I would really like to see this. But (and you probably know this by now) I’m a nerdy kind of person. Although, I think a lot of people would be interested in it.

I have officially decided that I am going to be healthier. I need to get back to the gym (because I’m not as toned as I was a few months ago) as it’s been eight weeks since my operation. The days when I don’t go to the gym, I am either going for a walk or hopping on the exercise bike. I am cutting out certain foods (and limiting chocolate to once a fortnight). Obviously, there will be occasions where I break these rules (or guide lines), but yeah.
