The Girl in Red’s Weblog

In Bruges = depressing as Hell. I don’t get why it was classified as a comedy. Yes, it was black, but it was not comedic. I regret getting it out. Blazing Saddles, on the other hand, was interesting. I’ve got the song French Mistake stuck in my head. For those who don’t know, this was pretty much the first movie that was a spoof. It was created by (who else) Mel Brooks.

Lady GaGa is kind of crass. Liked her first single Just Dance; the lyrics were okay, but the music was great, even if the film clip was dubious. I didn’t mind the second single Poker Face until it was played more times than I’ve had hot meals. Third single Eh Eh (Nothing Else I can Say) was meh. And then I hear the fourth- Love Game. The music is great. But it contains the lyrics “I wanna take a ride on your disco stick”. I mean, seriously? No, right now, I like the song Waking up in Vegas by Katy Perry. For those who like a decent spoof, however, someone did a version of Poker Face called Butterface. As in “her body’s fantastic, but her face…”. Also, would it really kill her to wear pants and not leotards for once? I don’t normally bitch, but seriously, she probably has enough money to buy proper clothes. If she’s not careful, she’ll end up like Madonna: not bad music, but you’re put off by the muscles and everything. And the weird hair-bow thing is just that: weird.

Okay, let’s try to make up for lost time, shall we? Firstly, I got sick with a virus containing practically every goddamn symptom possible RIGHT BEFORE EXAMS. So sorting that out = nightmare. Okay, I have seen the Boat that Rocked. It was a really good movie.

God, I’m so embarrassed. You see, my mum and I went into the city the other day and we grabbed some lunch. I had some pasta. I wandered around all day and I caught the train home with my Dad. When we got home and he hugged Mum. he went “Oh, you smell of garlic, too”. I responded with “WHAT??????????????????????“. I smelled a lot worse than Mum, though. PD came up to me after Dad mentioned the garlic (which I had been completely unaware of) and went “Whoa, you do, too”. Was setting up for a shower (where I would and did wash my hair) and PD and I were making jabs at each other when she threatened me with pain. I just got close to her and those threats went away as she attempted to escape my smell.  So if there’s one advantage to the affect garlic has, it’s that. But I got my top off, smelled it – PHWOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dad, I am so sorry you had to sit next to me on the train.

My mother was temporarily insane. It was raining recently and we had to hang out washing. It was raining. I got a bit wet. PD was telling Mum this so that I could get into dry clothes. What does Mum tell us to do? Get into clean clothes? Cover our kidneys? Nope; she told us to GET INTO OUR SWIMSUITS. So there I was in a bikini, hanging out washing as the cold wind directed itself at my midriff. Not really surprising that I got sick two days later.

Finally saw Transformers. Wouldn’t mind seeing the sequel. New Harry Potter trailer which looks awesome, but gives a lot away if you haven’t read the books.

It is really really really awesome!!!!!

Movie trailers to check out: The Ugly Truth (actually looks like a decent rom-com), The Year One, Public Enemies.

{April 2, 2009}   I Feel Nothing

Yep, that’s right. Not amused by the fact that our cat was content after managing to get her collar off, only to get a flea treatment and then a brand spanking new collar. Nothing about the fact that a possible school trip is off the agenda due to bad timing (I was kinda disappointed at first, but now I’m nothing). I think it’s because I’ve been so sick and so stressed and had so many people stressing and getting annoyed with me for God knows why that I don’t have any tears of anger or sadness or disappointment or much in the way of laughter left. Not today, anyway. Is that normal? To get to a state of numbness? I don’t think I like it. No, I don’t like it. I’d much rather feel, even if it’s a stupid emotion for an even stupider reason.

{March 31, 2009}   Ugh

SO many assignments and exams  and I’m sick. With a virus. Oh joy. Wonderful timing. I’ve had about every possible symptom I could have. And it’s getting OLD. At least I could submit one of my assessments. It was Brecht stuff, which means I’m now picking up Brecht in movies such as Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Anyway, let’s see. Movie news. Emily Browning will be in a Zack Snyder film. Voyage of the Dawn Treader will be doing some filming in OZ in July.

Music: I have recently come across a pretty sexy song with a very “steamy” film clip. It’s by Ciara feat. Justin Timberlake and it’s called Love Sex Magic. This one is a good song, plus it’s getting publicity because of the film clip. It’ll sell.

{March 11, 2009}   Hey-lo

I meant to tell you guys about the photocopier incident. Okay, at my school, the students have to insert money to use the photocopier, but teachers can put in a high amount of credit (in the hundreds and occasinally thousands) and then take it away later. Only thing is, often they leave it in there for ages and so sneaky students photocopy while they have the chance. Anyway, my friend had something to photocopy and I noticed a teacher had left money in there, so I said that now was her chance. However, when we got back, whoever it was had taken the money out. However, we didn’t realise that, so we were trying to figure out why it wouldn’t work. So we tried everything and then we asked the woman at the desk for help. She then asked if we put money in and we looked at the coin thing and saw that the money was gone. She then explained the photocopying system as if we were children.

{March 10, 2009}   I Know, I Know

I  haven’ been on a  while. Okay, before I get into the schronicles of my life, here’s some good stuff:

  • Natasha Bedingfield’s NB album has two secret songs in the last track
  • War, Inc is really good, but I can see why a lot of people didn’t like it; it was very biting
  • Ditto Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Okay, what’s happened recently? Well, dear readers, I’ve been working my arse off in reference to assignments. Also, my group and I went to Baskin Robbins one rainy afternoon (it’s in a teeny shopping corner). It was fun; at one stage, two of my friends and I skipped across te road and back singing (the first time, we were singing Raindrops keep Falling on my Head, the second time, it was Eye of the Tiger). That was fun. I think you all know about the torturous swimming carnival. Um… oh, preparing for my formal (aka Prom). Who knew it was so hectic! Making appointments, buying various things. I’m looking for a dress this weekend, but I’ve got less than a month to find a partner. Yeah, this is me. I don’t really know any guys. My friend’s brother is at a camp that weekend. My friend said a friend of her partner would be happy to come, but then the guy asked if I was hot. She apparently said that I was one of the most attractive people she hangs out with, but she doesn’t want me to take someone to my formal who wants to go, but is wondering if I’m hot.

Photo day is coming up, as is the due date for a couple of assignments and payments. Yipee.

I’ll probably post more later; I just can’t remember the other stuff I had to talk about.

I’m getting back into shape, eating healthier and eating less. I think my metabolism’s changing again ‘cos I can’t eat things too rich and some things which aren’t considered rich I’m now finding too rich (e.g. Milo ice cream).

My friend is really happy with me because I keep giving her posters of the Twilight cast. Also, the guy who plays Carlisle (Peter Facinelli) and Hayden Panettiere (aka Claire off Heroes) are coming to Australia.

Emily Blunt is no longer going to be Black Widow in Iron Man 2. Rumours are it will be Scarlett Johansson.

{February 10, 2009}   Hey All

Yes, I’ve finally got time to post. In my defence, school has just started and it’s important that I get my work done. I went to my swimming carnival. It was boiling. I was so sick that I had to be carried from the pool. I had to pause and then keep swimming. I, however, got cheered throughout the race (even though I was dead last, effort and persistence is considered to be more important than winning at my school) and afterwards has people say one of three things to me:

  1. Good effort (or something along those lines)
  2. How are you feeling?
  3. Did you hear me cheering for you?

It was hours before I got the colour in my face again.

Okay, the movie I’m tracking right now is a little film called Coraline. Based on the book by Neil Gaiman (he wrote the novel of Stardust before it was turned into a movie. He’s also written other books such as American Gods),it’s a dark animation (directed by Henry Selick – yes, it’s darker than the Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride). It has the voices of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, John Hodgman (aka PC guy in the Mac ads), Jennifer Saunders and Dawn French. Probably not for kids under the age of ten.

Also watched a few DVDs in the past few weeks. They were:

  • Soapdish (really funny)
  • The Jurassic Park films (I like the character of Malcolm best, but probably the first fiml best)
  • Good Will Hunting (if you haven’t seen it, it’s worth watching at least once)
  • 21 (fairly good. Spacey is, once again, fantastic)

I’ll probably post more stuff soon.

{January 21, 2009}   Even More Movie Stuff

I just remembered; you know how they remade Knightrider into a TV movie so they could turn it into a TV series? Well, they’re doing the same thing to Ten Things I Hate About You. It has the same Dad, but otherwise, all new cast. The girl who plays Kat is in a popular Nickelodeon TV series and the guyplaying Patrick is the grandson of Gregory Peck. Now, while it’s been getting publicity because it’s his grandson, I don’t think people will see it. It was Julia Stiles’ breakout, but it was Heath Ledger’s Hollywood breakout film, too.

Taylor Lautner is definitely playing Jacob in New Moon. There were some doubts, but it has been confirmed. Ben Barnes (aka Prince Caspian in tha last Narnia movie) wants to play Aro.

Speaking of confirmed, so has a fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Now there are all sort of rumours as to who will be in it. There was a minor Robert Pattinson rumour, but there was a bigger rumour that Russell Brand would play Jack’s brother.

Well, Teresa Palmer is doing well for herself. She started getting attention as Melody in 2:37. She then got noticed in the Grudge 2 and December Boys, being Daniel Radcliffe’s first on-screen kiss (although Order of the Phoenix came out before December Boys). More recently, there was Restraint/Guests/Ravenswood and Bedtime Stories. Now, she’s in the latest Just Jeans fashion campaign, has finished Young Americans/Kids in America (with Topher Grace from That 70’s Show) and has two or three movies in the works and is appearing in magazines more frequently. Nice work. Although the poor thing has had people spreading rumours about her love life even though she’s not really big yet, saying she’s going out with co-stars from pretty much each of her movies. Hopefully, it’ll get better for her.

The song Decode by Paramore (responsible for the song Misery Business) featuring as the song for the Twilight soundtrack featuring clips from the movie in the film clip (funnily enough, the song isn’t actually in the movie) is doing supremely well. It’s a good song, but the fact that it’s for Twilight has made it bigger.

{January 21, 2009}   Oh, Extra Stuff

Okay, let’s see. Emily Blunt is going to play Black Widow in the next Iron Man movie. As everyone knows, Don Cheadle is replacing Terrence Howard as Rhodey. Mickey Rourke is playing Whiplash. Samuel L Jackson might not be in the sequel like everyone originally thought. Tim Robbins is still a rumour, but Sam Rockwell has been confirmed as Justin Hammer. The fans for some reason have been wanting/keep mentioning the Mandarin (who was apparently indirectly referenced in the first) and Crimson Dynamo.

Rachel Weisz looks like she’ll be nabbing the role of Catwoman in the next Batman movie. Rumours of the Riddler are rife, with names like Johnny Depp and David Tennant (yeah, the latter is an oooooold rumour).

More cast members confirmed for the Tim Burton version of Alice in Wonderland. We already knew Australian Mia Wasikowska (In Treatment TV Series, Defiance, Rogue) would be Alice, that Johnny Depp would be the Mad Hatter (not exactly surprising) and Helena Bonham Carter will be the Red Queen. Well, since then, this is what has been confirmed:

  • Anne Hathaway – the White Queen
  • Michael Sheen (Underworld, Frost/Nixon) - the Cheshire Cat
  • Alan Rickman – Caterpillar (he’d be pretty good in that role)
  • Crispin Glover (Charlie’s Angels) – the Knave of Hearts
  • Matt Lucas (Little Britain) – Tweedledee and Tweedledum

Other cast members include Christopher Lee (unknown character), Frances de la Tour (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire; she will play Aunt Imogen) and Eleanor Tomlinson (while in a couple of small things and had a small role in The Illusionist as the younger version of Jessica Biel’s character, she’s best known for Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. She’ll be playing Fiona Chataway).

Kristen Bell’s been busy. She’s got SIX movies in the works. One is Astro Boy. I’m really hoping they’ll release Fanboys out here soon. There might even be a Veronica Mars movie, if we’re lucky.

I’ll post more movie news later.
